Dot Com Moguls Gathering

By this time I believe every serious blogger already knew about John Chow. He is famous of making money out of blogging - either through paid posting, advertising, affiliate and even donation. He also gave away an ebook about making money from blogging for FREE. I think he gained more money giving it for FREE rather than if he sells it. Download the ebook, read it and you will know why I said that!

Another thing he does that amazed me is the Dot Com Pho Gathering. He hangs out with others dot com moguls regularly. They went for lunch or dinner. And if I am not mistaken, they also went to visit some exhibition a few months ago.

Now, everybody knows that networking is very important when we are talking about business. It doesn’t matter whether you run your business on the ground or on the internet. We learn a lot from networking. We can even gain more businesses through networking.

Just think.. How many times did you bought some good deals and you told other people to buy from the same sources with you? Well, same thing can happen with networking. I am not going to discuss through about this here, maybe in other post..

What I want to say here, networking is what most of us are lack of. A lot of Malaysian loves to do business by themselves. Of course they have their own reasons for practising that, but I knew that the most popular reasons are “I am too busy - no time to meet/ chat with others” and “I am afraid someone else will ‘pancung’/ ‘makan’ my project”.

While in KL I used to hang out with businessmen from various fields. Some of them are already successful, while most of them are still climbing the ladder of success. We used to have a networking session fortnightly and I play the role as organizer - that’s what I am good at! We will fix a topic every session such as marketing, accounting, business loans etc as long as it’s related with business and developing it. Then, we will find an expert on the topic to become the chairperson for the session and we will discuss (and learn) about the topic for the whole night. The session used to start at 8p.m and end after midnight - depends on the individual..

I learn a lot about business - developing and managing it - from this circle of friends. Well, we can’t be jack of all trade and this is how we learn from and help each others. There’s always someone who is expert in a field that we know less about. And most importantly we get the knowledge for free - not saying that you can get their services for free too!

And many of us (not everyone) gained new business deals from each other. It’s also served as a motivational event as we are surrounding ourselves with same like mind. And we encouraged each other to go further in business.

Anyway, I believe it’s good and beneficial for us if we could have somekind of gathering over here in JB.. Maybe not as frequent as John Chow and clan did - they have it every saturday. We could have a routine hangout every month and we can choose a certain topic that related to what we are doing - enterpreneurship. I believe each one of us has a capability of certain area that are different from each other and it doesn’t matter whether you are an OTAI or just a newbie. Apart from sharing knowledge, networking and gained businesses, such occasion also will contribute to the development of internet business in our country. Those who are interested to start an internet business are welcome too and they could learn all about it before investing into the business.

P.S.: This is also a way for us to correct the society bad perception of internet business - not all are scam!

P.P.S.: I proposed the hangout to be held in JB - but it doesn’t mean that anyone else from other places can’t attend. As long as you are willing to come down to JB, it’s fine with me.
